The Bench 2007
In the summer of 2007 The Class Trip Corporation
embarked upon its most ambitious PR experiment of all. Along with
DJ Max Glazer, sneaker Impresario On-The-Go Ari, and nightlife fixture
Fancy, Class Trip put its marketing prowess to the test by creating a
sensation around “the art of hanging out” on a New York City bench.
Dubbed “The Bench”, the weekly “Busy Doing Nothing” party became
the insider hot spot of the summer, attended by celebrities and covered
extensively by the press.
This Saturday night hang-out
session on a simple street bench on Houston Street was frequented by
Grammy Award Winners, a 2007 Fulbright scholar, models, renowned
artists, and celebrated DJs. To date The Bench has been covered
extensively by Time Out New York, The Fader, Mass Appeal, Riottt.com,
Missbehave Magazine, and received a two-page feature in The New York
Observer, that included a mention on the front cover as well as the
cover of the Arts and Culture section. At the end of the summer
MTV will broadcast their number one hip-hop show, Sucka Free, from The
Bench. Within weeks of kicking off the project The Class Trip was
approached by sponsors seeking exposure to the notable New Yorkers that
frequented this weekly “anti-happening.”
